Oil on canvas, 130 x 96 cm.
This work belongs to the Gaza series, and is the second of four works. Remember that the first is the Pietà for Gaza.
In this work, Jesus Christ holds his mother, the Virgin Mary, dead in the context of the situation in Gaza.
This reverses the traditional representation of the Pietà. This change of roles can intensify the message of pain and sacrifice.
In the context of the war in Gaza, this image can symbolize suffering and the loss of innocent lives. The reversal of traditional roles could also suggest an act of vindication on the part of Jesus, who decides to collect the body of the Virgin, where the natural order has been disrupted due to violence and conflict. The figure of Jesus Christ holding his dead mother can be seen as a call for compassion and peace, underlining the need for empathy and humanity in times of crisis.
